Adrienne Rich: Contradictions

by justinemendoza

Just opened a letter from my grandmother that contained the following poem and a note that Adrienne Rich passed away recently:

…                             but you can learn

from the edges that blur          O you who love clear edges

more than anything          watch the edges that blur

My grandmother’s birthday was on Saturday and being the awful and distracted granddaughter that I am have yet to call her. (If I were inclined to make excuses… no, nevermind).

Happy Birthday to you Grandma! I thought of you all day on Saturday, and I miss you all the time. Hope you had a wonderful hike.
